Hello today I am going to give a brief introduction to layer masks. Layer masks kind of provide a window to a layer, you can set animation and change the layer mask to the impression of animation to the layer behind it. Ok, first of all we need to have something layer behind it. So I am going to import a picture. I will just import it. Put it just on a stage, use a logo right now. So we have something to move on it, to kind of create a window to see only a part of that or a section of that. Really easy way to do that is the masks.
So we are going to create a new layer, this will be our mask. And we want to create an object whatever, a window that want to be, only go with a circle. If you right click on the new layer and create, right click and select mask, that object now is no longer the object it just becomes kind of like a viewing window. Whenever you move that viewing window or change that viewing window, you will be able to see the object behind it. If we unlock the layer, we will be able to see it.
Show you how that animation kind of works. First of all, let us expand the picture 50 frames then let’s play with this layer mask a little bit. Let us make some key frames. I am just pressing Alt, holding it down, not letting it go, that’s a quick way to cut and paste. Let us go to each key frame and manipulate the mask. Now we go back and add motion tweens to these mask layers to move our mask around. If we test the movie, press Alt or Ctrl + Alt. You could see that viewing window moving, the layers. So you don’t actually have to change or manipulate or you could manipulate the layer behind it to change a mask.
